01 What are cookies?
Cookies are tiny text files a website stores in your browser when you visit it. They let the site remember things between visits — that you're logged in, what language you picked, that you've already dismissed the cookie banner — and, on some sites, what you've been doing across pages.
'Cookies' here also covers similar technologies like localStorage, sessionStorage, and small pixel/SDK identifiers used inside our mobile apps. We treat them under the same rules.
Cookies fall into two broad groups: essential ones the service can't run without, and optional ones we only set if you say yes.
02 Categories of cookies we use
- Essential (always on) — Authentication session, CSRF protection, remembering your cookie-consent choice itself. Without these, the site can't keep you logged in or keep your preferences from one page to the next. Examples: inrepply_session, inrepply_csrf, inrepply_cookie_consent. Duration: session — 12 months.
- Functional (consent) — Remembers preferences that are nice-to-have but not strictly required: theme (light/dark), language, recently-used filters. Examples: inrepply_theme, inrepply_locale. Duration: 12 months.
- Analytics (consent) — Helps us understand which pages and features people use, so we can fix what's broken and prioritise what to build next. Aggregated, not used to profile individuals. Providers: Google Firebase Analytics, Cloudflare Web Analytics. Duration: up to 14 months.
- Marketing (consent) — We don't currently use marketing or advertising cookies. If we ever add them — for example, to measure a campaign — they'll be off by default and listed here.
03 Third-party cookies
Some pages or flows in InRepply embed services run by third parties. When you interact with those, the third party may set its own cookies under its own privacy and cookie policies.
- Stripe — when you pay through the web checkout. Used for fraud detection and processing the payment.
- Google Firebase — for authentication and (if you consent) analytics.
- Cloudflare — for performance, bot protection, and (if you consent) analytics.
We do not embed any social-media trackers, ad networks, or retargeting pixels.
04 Manage your consent
You can change your cookie preferences any time. Open the 'Manage cookies' link in the footer to reopen the consent panel — toggle the categories you want and save.
Your choice is stored for 12 months. After that, we'll ask again. You can also reset your choice and re-prompt the banner by clearing the inrepply_cookie_consent entry from your browser storage.
05 Browser-level cookie controls
You can also block, allow or delete cookies directly in your browser. The trade-off: blocking essential cookies will break parts of InRepply (you won't stay logged in, for example).

Most browsers also honour Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals. We treat a clear GPC signal as a refusal of non-essential cookies on your next visit.
06 Changes to this policy
If we add a new cookie category — say, marketing cookies for a future campaign — we will re-prompt the consent banner so you get a fresh choice before anything new is set. For smaller updates (clarifying wording, renaming a cookie), we just update the 'Last updated' date.
